About Us

Message from our CEO, Sarah MacIntosh-Wiseman

With the unanimous support of all six local municipal units, Pictou Landing First Nation, and the Province of Nova Scotia, the Pictou County Regional Enterprise Network (PCREN) was established in August 2018 and became operational in April 2019.  We are one of seven Regional Enterprise Networks (RENs) in Nova Scotia, and operate with the guidance and support of a volunteer Board of Directors.

As a new organization, we are still working to define and broadcast our role within the business community, but our primary mandate is to support and grow a sustainable and thriving economy here in Pictou County.  As part of that mandate, we will: support local entrepreneurs and small business; encourage growth and expansion of businesses looking to export their products; help local businesses connect with government and other resources that may assist; support businesses in addressing labour market shortages; work to improve employment rates for those in our population who are underemployed or unemployed; and promote the reputation of Pictou County as an incredible place to both live and do business.

Now, more than ever, we know that fulfilling our mandate is no small task.  Businesses and community members are facing challenges and hardships that we could not have imagined even a few short months ago.  We do not yet know exactly how we will be able to best support our business community through this COVID-19 situation, but we are here to help.  And we are here to collaborate with the many partner organizations and stakeholders who are also doing what they can to help our resilient community get through this situation, together.

This temporary site has been established to direct community members to government updates/supports; to local businesses who are adjusting their products and services to keep doing business safely; and to other resources that might be of interest.  We will update the site regularly as this is not a complete list of resources, simply a starting point.

In the meantime, we want to hear from the business community, to ensure that we are understanding both the challenges and opportunities your organization is facing now, and into the future.  Please feel free to reach out to us at office@pcren.ca.

Stay well,

Sarah MacIntosh-Wiseman, CEO
