Spring Business Workshop Series

 

The Pictou County Partnership’s Spring Business Workshop Series starts Wednesday, May 8, 2024. These in-person workshops  are funded through the Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration. There is no cost for these workshops to participants. However, seats are limited and advanced registration is required.

  • Wednesday, May 8 - Marketing/Branding - 9AM-11AM 
  • Wednesday, May 22 - AI/Social Media - 9AM-11AM 
  • Wednesday, June 5 - Financial Fundamentals - 9AM-11:30AM 
  • Wednesday, June 19 - Pricing - 9AM-11:30AM 
Workshop Outlines: 
  • Marketing/Branding:  This workshop is designed to illuminate the distinct roles of marketing and branding in business success. By the end of the session, participants will understand the foundational elements of marketing and branding. They will be equipped to apply these principals to cultivate meaningful connections with their customers to drive their business forward.  
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Social Media:  At this workshop, participants will leave practical insights and knowledge, and empower participants to confidently use AI tools and social media in their business. 
  • Financial Fundamentals:  Learn about the financial fundamentals for small businesses. Topics will include an introduction to key financial concepts, budgeting, cash flow, recordkeeping and an overview of documents required for filing small business tax returns. 
  • Pricing:  At this workshop, participants will learn about pricing products and services for profitability, including key calculations through group and hands-on practical exercises.

About the Facilitators 

Mary Ellen Makhlouf - Forward Creative - Marketing/Branding  & AI/Social Media Workshops: 

Businesses play a critical role in enriching the communities they operate in. Drawing on her belief in the potential of technology and her passion for creativity, Mary Ellen empowers businesses to leverage digital tools to jumpstart and scale their businesses. As founder and creative director of Forward Creative, a Nova Scotia-based agency providing branding, websites, marketing, and AI adoption support, Mary Ellen combines her passion for technology with a flair for creativity.

Lauren Forbes - Financial Fundamentals & Pricing Workshops: 

For over 40 years, Lauren Forbes has had extensive experience in a full range of business and has been a consultant from “start up” to expansions. Among her accomplishments, she owned and operated a retail store, a fitness club, managed her own service business and is now retired and helping entrepreneurs and startups. She was also involved as a part time Controller as well as providing accounting service, bookkeeping and software training. Lauren has mentored and coached many entrepreneurs.  She uses real life examples in her presentations and her delivery style has been described as entertaining, thought provoking, and interactive.
